King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center The hospital's mission is to provide the highest level of specialized health care in an integrated educational and research environment. The King Abdullah Center for Oncology and Liver Diseases was opened at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, as the largest specialized center of its kind in the region. It represents a significant addition to the capacity of King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, with (300) hospitalization beds, (96) beds for intravenous treatment (chemical and biological), and (8) operating rooms equipped with the latest specialized medical technologies, in addition to supporting medical services such as radiology, pharmacy, and laboratories. This will enable the hospital to double the number of patients admitted and treated in the field of oncology and liver diseases. The smart technologies used in the center will lead to a new and better experience for patients, as well as provide healthcare providers with the latest equipment and an improved work environment.
King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center continues its quest to be one of the leading hospitals in providing health care, as the transplantation program in this hospital is getting stronger day by day and continues to build its previous successes. We are proud of the achievements of the Organ Transplant Center in the Foundation, especially when compared to the world's leading organ transplant centers in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. In terms of quantity, the General Organization of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center took the lead in transplanting liver and kidneys for children under the age of eighteen (18) years, compared to similar centers in the United Kingdom and the United States of America in 2016.
The Organ Transplant Center at the General Organization of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh leads in the number of liver and kidney transplants from living donors compared to centers in the United Kingdom, and comes sixth in terms of the number of kidney transplants from living donors compared to centers in the United States of America in 2016. In terms of outcomes, patient and organ survival rates are similar to those of transplant centers in the United States for all organs.
For more than thirty years, the Academic Affairs and Training Department at the hospital has been distinguished by providing continuous distinguished educational activities in addition to advanced audiovisual services. In 2004, the hospital was accredited as the first hospital of its kind in the region to receive accreditation from the American Academy of Continuing Education (AACME). The hospital currently offers twenty-two (22) training programs for resident physicians, and sixty-six (66) subspecialty fellowship programs. In addition, there are two (2) health support programs. During the period from 2005 to June 2017, three hundred and seventy-six (376) medical scholarships, and six hundred and thirteen (613) scholarships in non-medical fields were granted. The scholarship students study in a large number of countries, including North American countries, Europe, as well as internally in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Due to the high level of training they have received, more than (93%) of these scholarship students have been employed in positions within King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre.
